A Town Hall on Fatherhood

Am vergangenen Freitag hat Präsident Obama im Garten des Weißen Hauses mit Schülern der umliegenden Schulen eine Diskussion über die bedeutung der Vaterschaft und die Übernahme persönlicher Verantwortung geführt.
In dem folgenden ‘White House town hall meeting ‘ präsentierten 5 Männer mit unterschiedlichem Hintergrund ihre Vaterschafts Geschichte. Im Anschluss an diese Stories diskutierte der Präsident seine Ansichten zum Vatersein und verlieh seiner Hoffnung Ausdruck, dass dieses Gespräch der Startpunkt eines nationalen Dialogs über Vaterschaft in amerika sein wird:
This town hall marks the beginning of a national conversation that we hope to start about fatherhood and personal responsibility — about how fathers across America are meeting the challenges in their families and communities, and what government can do to support those who are having a difficult time. Today, you’ve had a chance to hear from five of those fathers, men who are doing an outstanding job of meeting their obligations in their own lives. …
And we need dads — but also men who aren’t dads — to make this kind of commitment not just in their own homes to their own families, but to the many young people out there who aren’t lucky enough to have responsible adults in their lives. We need committed, compassionate men to serve as mentors and tutors, and big brothers and foster parents. Even if it’s just for a couple hours a week of shooting hoops, or helping with homework, or just talking about what’s going on in that young person’s life.
