Brian Reid, Autor des rebeldad<\/a> Blogs und Gastschreiber im OnBalance<\/a> Blog der Washington Post<\/a> sucht in seinem Beitrag \u201aWith Workplace Help, Dads Would Step Up More<\/a>\u2019 ebenfalls nach Antworten:<\/span><\/p>\n

I have been vexed by the question of why dads haven\u2019t started doing more sooner, and I found an answer of sorts in the American Prospect <\/span>essay by Kathleen Gerson<\/span><\/a><\/span> that I <\/span>mentioned a couple of weeks ago<\/span><\/a><\/span>. Gerson suggests that young men today come into relationships with egalitarian ideals \u2014 just like <\/span>the surveys suggest <\/span><\/a><\/span>\u2013 but fall back into a \u201cneotraditional arrangement\u201d when they hit the modern realities of \u201crigid, time-demanding jobs and a dearth of child-care or family-leave options block the path to such a goal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Basically, the spirit is willing, but the system is weak. There is <\/span>a reasonable debate<\/span><\/a><\/span> to be had about whether more \u201cfamily-friendly\u201d policies will just exacerbate gender gaps (because women will be more likely to use them at a cost of career advancement), but Gerson\u2019s theory, coupled with the refreshing idealism of young dads, suggests otherwise \u2014 that dads are ready to step up to the plate, if only the workplace would allow for it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
